Only 20,000 Nokia N1 tablets were available to be sold despite half a million people trying to get one

The Nokia N1 is a pretty fantastic device – I’m not going to lie, I wish I could get my grubby hands on one. Unfortunately, that is currently impossible as the device is only being sold in China, after the first day of sales happened yesterday. As it turns out, lots of people are finding the price of $257 USD to be pretty attractive, so much so that over half a million people (566,438, to be exact) queued up online to try and get a piece of that action. Unfortunately, there were only 20,000 Nokia N1 tablets available, all of which were sold out in exactly 4 minutes and 2 seconds – that’s 546,438 very sad people right there.

So what’s all the fuss about? Well, I’m glad you asked. The 7.9-inch tablet manages to pack in an impressive assortment of hardware including a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom processor, clocked at 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 5,300mAh battery. Not spectacular, but still very nice indeed. Even with all this inside, the Nokia N1 still has time to be one of the thinnest tablets around, measuring just 6.9mm thick with an anodized aluminium exterior. Couple that with an oh-so-nearly stock Android interface, and you have a pretty sweet package – let’s hope Nokia plans to make a lot more of them for the next round of sales and thinks about selling them elsewhere in the world.
