2011: The Happy New Year of the Android

Year of the Android

Year of the Android

While 2011 is the Chinese year of the Rabbit, I’m starting to think it should be the year of the Android. With so much happening over the last couple of years and Android becoming a mature platform for the mainstream, 2011 is set to boom in the world of Android.

Companies such as Ford with Sync and GM with OnStar are building technology and applications that integrate your Android device with your vehicles. Google TV, which released as a big of a flop, is set to get major upgrades and access to the Android Market and hopefully become the platform we all thought it would be.

Phones just keep getting better and better and the power and integration with your home and media is increasing all the time.  Look at the Samsung Galaxy S series and the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, which in my opinion is a very underrated phone, allowing you to play your music,  videos and display your photos from you home network and also play media from your phone on your home media player like my Samsung LED TV.

Speaking of phones, did you vote yet for the hottest Android phone of 2010?  The results are interesting so far and in my personal opinion, the hottest phone of 2010 has been the Google Nexus One.  It may not be the fastest phone on the block today, but it took the Android platform to the next level and showed what a 1GHz processor and an excellent overall design could do for Android, and it’s still the best designed phone I’ve had the pleasure of using.

Gaming is becoming as easy and enjoyable on your Smartphone as it is on your gaming console at home with games like Angry Birds and even emulators that let you play your old console games on your phone. Sony is building a Playstation phone based on Android that will hopefully give access to your library of PSP games or will it be something new? We don’t really care right now.

Tablets are being released almost on a weekly basis from not just the mainstream manufacturers but also the Chinese copiers and more.

Look how custom ROM development has grown in the last couple of years. Cyanogen and Teamdouche are now THE established Android development team to emulate. CyanogenMOD is available on almost every device released and a full team of developers are constantly enhancing and testing every release. What’s next? A CyanogenMOD device?

CES is just around the corner and the list of announcements is endless. The next few weeks are going to see some pretty exciting technologies announced and released and we intend to be right in the middle of it all.

The future is looking extremely exciting for Android and the only people who benefit are us, the Android community.

As you can tell, I’m excited to be a part of this community and wanted to wish everyone a

Very Happy New Year!
