AOL Reader Joins The Google Reader Alternative Frenzy

AOL readerMany of you will have heard that Google Reader will be shut down on the 1st of July. In light of that news, there has been a frenzy of services from all corners of the internet aiming to cash in on the RSS aggregator’s demise. Just this week we heard that Digg would be launching its take on RSS readers next week, and today we  have another horse joining the race: AOL. AOL has just put up the site for its beta testing of AOL Reader, although according to engadget, it won’t actually start accepting invites until June 24th.

There are very few features shown on the site so far apart from general features like customization options and importing subscriptions lists, but from what little is shown, AOL Reader actually looks a lot like the current Google Reader. And that might be a good thing.

AOL Reader will likely be available on the web, tablets and mobile, however from the title page, it’s hard to discern if AOL is suggesting that AOL Reader will be available for all tablets and smartphones, or only the iPad, iPad Mini and iPhone. I hope it’s the former.
