“Okay Google” is now the catchphrase that is sweeping through the community due to the release of Android 4.4 KitKat. Sure, we had it on Moto X first, and it can be utilized when the screen is off, but for those of us that don’t have that luxury of the optimized computing system, KitKat gave us touchless voice commands even though it can only be used on the homescreen.
So now you Chromebook users can use the Okay Google voice command, and this was brought up by a Googler, +François Beaufort, who found the hidden feature. Beaufort says, “the possibilities are endless,” when it comes to this feature on Chrombooks, so of course we will see further enhancements to voice commands in the future. We shall all have a JARVIS soon. Instructions on how to enable the feature is written below, so check it out and let us know how it works.
If you’re on the Dev Channel now and have previously enabled the App Launcher Start Page hidden behind the experimental chrome://flags/#enable-app-launcher-start-page flag, it should work out the box. Just say “Ok Google†and search for something by saying it.
