One of the biggest criticisms about Samsung devices is its TouchWiz user interface (UI). That’s not to say that there aren’t people that like it, but on a scale from stock Nexus to heavily controlled and themed, the TouchWiz UI is next to almost nothing else. Having seen TouchWiz on almost every Samsung device for as long as anyone cares to remember, it was surprising to hear rumours that the Samsung Galaxy S6 could have a toned down TouchWiz UI, described as “Nexus-like”, which we will presumably see next month when Samsung announces their latest flagship at MWC 2015.
This is particularly surprising seeing as Android Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy S5 shows no sign of going backwards in the UIÂ department. Still, it is said that Samsung is current testing maintenance releases that could possibly see current Samsung devices get an upgrade (or downgrade as the case may be) to a more stock interface, though it’s anyone’s guess as to whether this actually happens. If true, this could mark one of the few times that Samsung has taken consumer criticism into account (another is when they started using metal in the bodies of their devices), and could be a sign of things to come. Still, not to be a pessimist, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
