If you were paying attention around February you know Samsung renamed their processor line from the Hummingbird we had just become to use. The new Exynos line of processors would be re-engineered to compete against the upcoming barrage of hardware expected from Qualcomm and Nvidia, offering 5 times the 3D processing availability than what’s currently offered. Significant results were to be expected as the new age phones started to roll out, however it seems Samsung is already looking way ahead of the current plethora of devices rolling out, and it’s no secret.
As you may know Samsung has recently upped the ante with the upcoming Galaxy S II overclocking the current dual-core processor from 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz, which could be their way of combating the recent announcement of the Sensation that’s sporting a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon. The move to 1.2Ghz from the standard may not seem much more than a cheap attempt to match numbers, however the recent whispers rolling out of the Korean company suggest much larger gains in the next year.
As quoted from a Samsung representative; “We are planning to release a 2Ghz dual core CPU-equipped smartphone by next year,” then stating “This product will have the data processing capacities of a regular PC.” Current offering in the PC markets provide CPUs running at anywhere from 3GHz to 4GHz, which means Samsung new chips would seek to provide a desktop-like experience not yet seen in smartphone world.
Of course this comes after rumors of a triple/quad-core rolling out from Nvidia by Q4 to early 2012. Are these developments really going to put Samsung over-the-top, or are they going to be behind the curve?
