MiHome updates from beta to version 1.0, bring MIUI home experience to any Android 4.0 Device

The love we all have for our Android based devices isn’t always solely based on the hardware. Sometimes it is based on the software that we have the wonderful freedom to use. MIUI is ranked right up there with AOSP and CM9 as one of the greatest custom built systems around. Each has a large following of users for various reasons. Much like OEM UI’s, not everyone is partial to the other. When it comes to new devices, or even older ones, we like to tear it apart and replace everything possible with our favorite ROM’s, icons, launchers and apps. When it come to ROM’s though you might fall short on getting the specific one you want. After all, the developers can’t support every single device ever made. They sure do their best though. If you are a MIUI fan, but love the ROM you are on right now, or possibly just don’t want to root and flash anything just yet, you are in luck.

Just the other day we got notified that MiHome has been moved from beta to an official release of v1.0. MiHome is a launcher replacement much like Nova, Apex or ADW. It transforms your device into a MIUI look and feel. The latest MiHome is only available and built for Android 4.0 devices and up. You can use all the wonderful MIUI themes you have already picked up through us for your layouts, icons and all the other goodies you might be missing. It won’t change how your apps look, how your menu structure looks or even your drop down notifications though.

MiHome offers a custom set of launcher settings to help you further customize the look and feel of your desktop. You can change the transition effects, wallpapers, enable or disable MiLocker, set lockscreen wallpaper and a few others.

The MiHome package, which is free to snag, also includes MiLocker as mentioned above. MiLocker lets you active a MIUI style lockscreen which is also fully customizable and can also use any themes you may have already picked up. It really brings that MIUI look and feel back to your device with all the themeing perks tht so many of us enjoy.

I installed it right after the update and all seems to be working pretty well. As with any launcher, the first time you select it, it takes a couple minutes to set itself up. Give it a litle time and take things slow off the bat. After it settled down a bit it worked fast and looked great. I did see a few people say they ran into some issues with a few themes not taking hold and causing issues though. If you run into lag or any force close issues, try changing your theme before you kick MiHome  to the curb.

You won’t find the latest version in the Play Store unfortunately. At least not yet anyways. To pick up v1.0 click the download link below.

After you have it saved to your phone, install it like you would any other 3rd party APK. Once you are all up and running, be sure to check out all the different themes we have posted and pick a couple up. Also, when you launch the themes app that will be available on your desktop you will also be able to search out other themes to download and install easily.
