Google Plus adds in Animated GIF profile Photo Ability

Oh Google, the things you think to do. Yesterday they released an update to the Google Plus app that brought in some nice new additions. They also announced yesterday that you can now  use Animated GIF’s as your profile photos on Google Plus. You can create your own animated GIF of yourself pretty easily by just searching out “How to create a gif” in Google. It isn’t terribly hard. Of course you can also use any of the millions of GIF’s floating around the web if you would prefer,

Google Plus Animated Gif's
After reading through a few hundred comments from the Google+ post about it, it seems to be receiving its fair share of disapproval. You can go to Matt Steiner’s Google+ page to see how an animated GIF profile pic would appear on your G+ page. As you can see, it is circled out there in the left. The GIF won’t be moving about on the left hand side when you make a post or a comment, unless of course you hover over it with your mouse. On the phone side of things, you will see the animated image when you visit someones page. Obviously this is hard to show in just images. So click the link to Matt’s page on your PC and on your phone/tablet to see how it all looks.

While GIF’s are fun and cool on occasion, I am not so certain that using one as your profile image is all that important in life. I personally don’t plan to add one to my page, or even the sites page. What is your take on the new ability? Will you be pulling up your favorite GIF’s and dropping them in or will you make your own?
