NonoCube free comes to Android, taking the Nonogram puzzles 3D

NonoCube
A new game has just been released to the Play Store a few days ago. This is Graycode Software‘s first game release and boy did they do a great job. Their first game is called NonoCube. It is  a logic based puzzle game that takes its design from a mix of Sudoku and Nonograms. The later of the two are is the biggest influence. The Nonogram puzzles make you use logic, colors and a lot of patience to end up creating an image from colored in blocks. They look rather tricky. NonoCube is similar to Nonograms, except they have now been moved into a 3D work space.

I love playing games as much as possible, but that is usually few and far between. When I do get some time to sit, I really prefer games that make me think. Mainly because I have one of those brains that doesn’t stop until I pass out. Besides, using your brain is scientifically proven to be good for you. NonoCube delivers all the brain teasing fun one can handle. They start you off with a small tutorial so that you can understand the game mechanics, navigation and the process of logic thinking to solve each puzzle. Each puzzle is specifically designed to be solved and has a set path help you do so. It may all look like random numbers and squares, but I assure you it isn’t.

Each puzzle gets increasingly more complex and difficult as you progress. When you have solved the puzzle you end up with the prize object that was hidden in the cubes. As you can see from the images below, I have solved a number of them already. Some are full color, which means you solved the puzzle without a mistake. You are offered up 3 hearts, meaning three mistakes. Taking your time and working through the path will help you greatly. This isn’t a hit a bunch of cubes till you win sort of game. If you make a mistake you lose a heart. If you make three, you get to start over. If you clear the puzzle and have only made one or two mistakes, you still win, you just get a ghost reward.

The game controls are pretty straight forward. rotate and flip your 3D work environment by dragging around the screen. You can pinch to zoom in and out so that you can get closer to larger puzzles to clear out certain cubes. To the right you have 4 types of actions. A single bomb that removes the block you touch and multiple bombs that light up entire rows. You also have a single shield and a multishield. Utilizing these shields properly will help you solve a puzzle a little easier. Take for instance the puzzle I am working on now, yu se the green block with the 1 and 6 on it? That whole row is correct. So I have shielded it so I can figure out the next move and not accidently hit an incorrect block.

From here you should be able to see that the first 3 on the side should also be shielded because it is correct. Where the game picks up the pace and the difficulty is the additional dots on the numbers. A number all by its self means that there are that many blocks in that row. A 3 means three blocks. The 2 with the two red bots means that the blocks had a gap between them and the 4 with the orange dots mean that there are 3 or more gaps between the blocks.  Confused yet? It is much easier to play and to see then it is to explain.

Graycode Software claims there is over 10 hours of puzzles available. The number of hours will greatly depend on your ability to use logic and find the solutions. They can be tricky and time consuming. The good news is that the game has an auto save function so you can leave a puzzle to take a break and get a fresh set of eyes it later. There are 60 puzzles to solve right off the bat, that should keep you busy for quit some time. They are also offering up the first platinum pack for free in the paid version of the game. Looking at the Platinum purchase option, it would only be $0.99 to pick it up in the free version of the game. There are two more Platinum packs scheduled to be released at a later date.

NonoCube comes in 2 formats. A traditional ad supported free version which will show some video ads every once in a while and is actually the more recently launched version. Then there is the paid version, which is $1.99, and has no ads at all. If you are looking to give your brain a workout then I recommend you pick up the free version and give it a go. If puzzles are your thing, I bet it doesn’t take you long to just grab the paid version.
