Another SMS Trojan on the Loose

Nothing is safe anymore as another SMS Trojan has been found making its way on to Android handsets. The package name for this little critter is Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.b and fits the same profile as the previous FakePlayer.a which we learned about in the earlier part of August. Kapershy’s Denis Maslennikov said that this virus has been distributed “via clever search engine optimization techniques, a clear sign that cyber-criminals are making every effort to infect mobile devices.”

For those of you who are searching for porn players that run on Android, you might want to keep a better eye on what you’re doing as this virus starts when you download the third party app and by installing it, you’re giving the application permission to send SMS messages. Since more and more porn sites have gone the mobile route allowing SMS billing, you’ll probably snag a more expensive surprise at the end of the month than you were counting on.

Once this application is installed, it runs in the background sending $5 messages to premium numbers. Next time you decide to hit up similar services, understand the risks.
