Sharp has been making moves in the phone space over the last year. The first Sharp device to make its way stateside in a long time was the Aquos Crystal. They moved to a bigger version of that device. Now the Japanese company is pushing a mini device that looks fairly similar to the bezeless counterparts with the Sharp Aquos Mini.
The Aquos Mini actually packs some descent specs with a 4.5-inch 1080p screen, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 13 MP camera, 2120 mAh battery, is water-resistant and sports Android 4.4. It also utilizes Sharps new IGZO display technology, which I covered a little bit here, that is said to bring 2 -3 days of battery life out of the device.
A second device was announced, and while it is completely out of the realm of Android, it is something that is rather unique. The Aquos K is a flip phone. Yes, like back in the day flip phone with a keyboard and screen inside. They aren’t dead, in fact I know a lot of people who still own and use the RAZR as their they daily phone. The Aquos K isn’t Android based, but what makes it interesting is that Sharp packed a 13MP camera inside and it takes 1080p video. They also replaced the more traditional 4-way click pad with a sensing trackpad. The devices skin is similar to how Android might look and it even comes with Google’s search field on-screen and a full featured browser.
