In the year just passed, there was one controversy that had Apple owners crying out and Android owners sniggering in secret: #BendGate. The controversy surrounded the iPhone 6 Plus and its ability (read: not a feature) to warp while in your pocket. While the official reports were minimal, the social media world took the controversy and ran with it, kicking up a huge fuss regarding all of Apple products and their build quality. That controversy has now subsided, but something similar has come to the Android world, and it has appeared due to the fact the Sony Xperia Z3 bends while in your pocket.
Compared to the deformation seen on the iPhone 6 Plus, the bend in this Xperia Z3 is pretty minimal, and I’d say that the device would still be fully functional. All the same, this hasn’t stopped Dave Spedzia, who raised the issue on Google+, from swearing off Sony products forever based on this experience and the experiences he’s heard of with the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z3 Compact. I haven’t owned a Sony smartphone before, so I don’t feel able to fully counter his claim, but if there were widespread defects in Sony devices, I feel like we’d know by now. Still, you can never be too careful, so hopefully Sony will investigate what’s going on here.
