The availability of Wi-Fi networks in our homes, offices and various commercial locations is pretty insane. My phone prompts me for connections all over town when I am running errands. While snagging a Wi-Fi connection means I will have faster speeds than my mobile provider offers and I won’t be using my data plan at all. The latest and greatest in WiFi technology, called 5G Wi-Fi or 802.11ac. The new Wi-Fi capabilities promise to bring six times greater power efficiency and dramatically improve range. They also say it will triple your mobile devices speed as compared to Wireless N.
The BCM4335 mobile chip is getting a firm confirmation from Broadcom as being available bu Q1 2013. That could very well mean they could find their way into plenty of devices by Q2. Assuming the world makes it past December, next year is looking to be an extremely fast paced data year. For those of you that are substantially more tech savvy than I when it comes to chips and nanometers and such, you may want to read through the Broadcom press release. All I know is anything that will make my Wi-Fi faster on my device, give me longer range and consume less power sounds like a great thing to me.
