Who Is Cyanogen Inc Teaming Up With For Their Next Piece Of Hardware?

cyanogen incThe Cyanogen Inc/Oppo collaboration to create and release the Oppo N1 smartphone has come and gone without too much fanfare and while the phone has been anticipated by many for its software, namely the possibility of shipping with CyanogenMod, many reviews have found the hardware to be its most glaring weakness. That’s to be expected in the extremely competitive phablet market, however, Cyanogen Inc isn’t keen to just rest on its laurels, already going onto its Google+ page this morning to tease the above image which accompanied the statement “We’re not quite ready to lift the veils but we can confirm that we have a new hardware partner!”

Another part of this interesting puzzle is Oppo’s ex-Vice President, Pete Lau, who resigned a few days ago under suggestive circumstances. Those suggestions allude to the idea that Lau has left Oppo to start a new hardware company to support the next Cyanogen phone. Android Police is now confirming via an anonymous source that Lau’s resignation is absolutely related to Cyanogen Inc’s latest post, and that the hardware partner that Cyanogen Inc has alluded to is not one that we know of, further suggesting that it will be a new manufacturer headed by Lau.

The source also tips that this new CyanogenMod phone will be of a phablet size and sporting an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which will allow for speeds of up 2.5GHz. It’s all looking very peachy for the wildly popular software company and we’re expecting that quite a few people will be excited about the announcements to come.

What do you think about all these rumours surrounding Lau’s resignation and Cyanogen Inc’s teaser? And would you rather get an Oppo N1 or wait for this newer CyanogenMod phone? Let us know what you think.
