Galaxy Note 7 Gets A Software Update To Prompt Users Into A Return

Samsung has its fair share of bad press due to the Galaxy Note 7 fire/smoke incidents and the company is trying all it can to undo any further damage. Through its U.S. Note 7 Refund and Exchange Program, the company has so far managed to recall 85 percent of all Galaxy 7 devices.
In an attempt to encourage remaining owners to participate in the program, Samsung has released an update that will limit the phone’s ability to charge beyond 60 percent. The update will also enable pop-up notifications every time a person charges, reboots or turns on the screen of their device. The update was released for the Korean market back in September but it has only just appeared in the US market with T-Mobile being the first carrier to list it.
“Any Galaxy Note7 owner who has not yet participated in the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program should immediately power down their phone and contact their carrier or retailer today,” says Samsung.
Although the newly released software update will surely annoy some users but given the number of fire-related incidents that have been reported since its release, it is a step in the right direction.
