Come on, Samsung – why do you give us something to complain about every year? On the list of things we expected Samsung to include on its 2016 flagship smartphones, USB Type-C had seemed a relative certainty given that more and more devices are starting to adopt it. Unfortunately, however, any hopes of a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge with USB Type-C have been dashed after a photo was leaked on Weibo showing a S7 edge bearing the familiar shape of a microUSB slot. Bugger.
In case you haven’t heard of the benefits of USB Type-C, the prime one is being able to be plugged in any way you want – there is no “up” or “down” for the connector and you can also expect faster charging as well. There are no downsides to this, apart from a brief transition period as everyone stocks up on USB Type-C accessories, and given one of Samsung’s biggest competitors, LG, is expected to have Type-C on its smartphone this year, it makes very little sense for Samsung not to jump on board as well. But hey, what do we know?
