Leaks and rumors are nothing new to the world. Be it a leaked movie trailer, a new mobile chip or an unreleased phone. HTC has been making the headlines lately with leaks of their upcoming HTC Hima and Hima Plus, which are supposedly two variants of the upcoming HTC One M9 that is scheduled to be announced in Barcelona Spain on March 1st at Mobile World Congress. Another well-known line from HTC is the Desire line. Which is a bit more on the mid-ranged tier in most respects, but still very capable devices. New leaks seem to point to another device under construction dubbed the HTC A55 which could be the next big thing for the Desire line.
The HTC A55 is supposedly taking over for the HTC Hime Ace that had previously been rumored that carried similar specs. The A55 is a bit more on the high-end side of the spec sheet in many respects. It supposedly carries a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) pixel display, 20MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM and a 2.0GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor. The full spec sheet is as follows:
- MediaTek MT6795 2.0GHz*8 64Bit
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB ROM
- 5.5″ WQHD Display
- 20MP Back Camera with a LED flash
- 13MP or 4MP UltraPixel Front Camera
- BoomSound
- Bluetooth 4.1
- Not big battery (less than 3000)
- Android 5.0
- Desire Sense 7.0
- Launch Date Feb 2015
The list seems to outline much of what the HTC Desire Eye features with some modifications. Such as increasing the rear camera resolution, adding a little RAM, bumping the screen size and resolution and storage. The talk of a MediaTek processor may have some a bit leery as many devices predominantly run on Qualcomm, Exynos, Intel or NVIDIA. I have experienced previous MediaTek processors and they have seemed to handle processes pretty well and keep power consumption to a minimum. I am not extremely concerned with the battery being listed under 3000 mAh, even with the screen jump. The previous Desire Eye carried a 2400 mAh battery on a Qualcomm 801 and still listed out 20 hours of talk time. I know real world usage varies. Say it is a 2800 mAh or somewhere in that neighborhood, it should make it through a full day with Android 5.0 and the MediaTek processor.
As always, these are just the rumors that are floating around about the device. Until we get a concrete announcement from HTC we will take this with a grain of salt, but the list is very plausible. If Upleaks is correct though, the HTC A55 could be announced prior to MWC and the HTC One M9. I would think HTC would take to the stage with this prior to showing off the new flagship, but an early announcement could be a good move to help give the One M9 all the limelight instead. What are your thoughts?
