Ice Cream Sandwich update for Motorola DROID 4 is Getting Close

Just a few days ago we let you know that Motorola was prepping up for a soak test for the Motorola DROID 4. There was a lot of evidence that pointed towards it being an Ice Cream Sandwich update. Any worries you had of Motorola pushing out another bug fix instead have been laid to rest. A new software update PDF has been posted over at Motorola for the DROID 4. It clearly outlines software version 6.16.217.XT894.Verizon.en.US as Android 4.0.4. Along with the OS jump, there are also a number of fixes, app updates and UI changes. Beyond ICS though, the more significant part of the update will be the addition of Global Roaming. Giving those of you that travel a bit more coverage outside of the continental U.S. Of course roaming charges or plans will apply.

While this update isn’t out yet officially for all DROID 4 owners, it is nice to know it is coming. Those of you that are taking part in the soak test via the Motorola Feedback Network, should be seeing it, or seeing it soon. As long aas all goes according to plan, we expect the pubnilc update to be out before the week is over.

When the update does become available to all, you should get a nice little OTA pop up on your screen. You can always go to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates to check manually. Be sure you are on Wi-Fi for the fastest download of the update since it weighs in at 364.1MB. Hope it lands soon for everyone. If you see it hit your device and you aren’t part of the Motorola Feedback Network, please let us know.
