Mediatek 8-core, 2GHz Mobile Processor Could Be Launched In November

mediatekAs we become to understand in the mobile processor world, more isn’t necessarily better; for example, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, which is technically a quad-core processor, far outperforms Samsung‘s ‘octocore’ Exynos 5 processor. Naturally this is due to the internals smarts of the processor as well as the way the cores are utilized, but it stands to reason that the number of cores is no longer the yardstick by which power should be judged. MediaTek looks like it doesn’t think so though, and looks to be planning to bring out a 8-core, 2GHz processor as early as November.

UDN reports that this processor, which carries the designation MT6592, has performed in AnTuTu benchmarks to the tune of almost 30,000, but not quite at the same level as the Snapdragon 800’s 2.2GHz model. But for MediaTek, a processor manufacturer who is thriving in the Chinese market with their much cheaper processors, it won’t matter one bit.

Even if the processor is done by November, it’s unlikely we’ll see phones with this new chip in them till next year, but it’s a strong warning to other processor manufacturers that MediaTek is catching up, slowly, but surely.
