When the newly coined Cyanogen Inc. announced they would be working with Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo, to bring the Oppo N1 to market, many of us in the Android community were extremely excited. Affectionally known as the “CyanogenMod phone”, the N1 is designed so that it can have CyanogenMod easily flashed to it, and in a step that many were estatic to hear, Oppo would also be offering the N1 with CyanogenMod already on it. We heard at the announcement event that the N1 was planned to launch in December internationally, and today, Oppo has confirmed that they are on target to meet that deadline.
The Oppo N1 is going to have a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM, 6-inch screen and a rotating camera that adorns the top edge of the device. Specifications aside, the most important burden for the CyanogenMod phone is the fact it could be the precedent for more community-based mods to work with manufacturers, getting their own modded Android operating systems on phones. And for many in the Android community, this option is far preferred as a common complaint about current phones is that their operating systems are bogged down with manufacturer and carrier apps that ruin device usability.
I guess when December finally rolls around, we’ll find out just how popular the CyanogenMod phone is going to be. Are you going to get the Oppo N1? Let us know what you think.
