Looks like those Exynos sporting Samsung Galaxy S4 owners in Russia are starting to see a hefty update roll out to their devices. It is being reported that Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is starting its push in the country to the GT-I9500 variant of the device and is coming in at a rather enormous 1049MB. It is also being said that a number of previously included apps, like Google Play Books, Play movies and others that can be had through the Galaxy Apps store too, aren’t part of the update in order to make the whole thing a little smaller. This isn’t the beginning of Samsung’s trimming of bloatware though as those talks are squarely sighted on the Galaxy S6. Still, it is nice to have some additional apps pulled from the update that we can easily choose to install from the Play Store on our own if we want them.
The update should be making its way to various owners right now, but could take the typical few weeks to hit every device. SamMobile says it isn’t showing up Samsung Kies yet leaving you to patiently wait for the OTA to grace your device. It doesn’t hurt to check Kies either as it could have been loaded up by now. Feel free to bounce into settings and check for the update manually on the device too. It doesn’t always do any good, but it doesn’t hurt. If you do see it you will definitely want to make sure you have a solid Wi-Fi connection, well over 50% battery life and some time to kill for the update to download and install.
