One of the many announcements to roll out of Google I/O yesterday was the addition of Magazines to the Play Store. Those of us that have either already received the updated Play Store, or
manually installed it already, have access to the magazine section already. The amount of content and options for purchase in this new section is pretty outstanding. Of course the layout is different on our devices then on the web version, but they both give you access to the same magazines. Since the addition of Magazines is new one would expect a sale to be underway to get you interested in spending some cash. Of course there is a sale, a couple of them actually.
Before you drop your money on a annual subscription you may want to give the
Play Magazines app a try first. See if you can use it easily, if reading a magazine on your phone or tablet is something you really want to do. The app is of course free, but there aren’t any magazines that are free to try out. No worries though, currently there are 37 different magazines available for just a hair under a dollar each. No surprise, many of them are geared towards the ladies out there, but there are few that might hit the spot for you guys like Sport Fishing, Popular Photography, TransWorld Ride BMX and Mens Fitness. Inexpensive way to try out the app and have a good read when you want it.
Another deal currently underway is a 20 under $20 deal. This is a great way to pick up an entire year long subscription for a fraction of what you would pay at the news stand. For instance, you can snag a year subscription along with a 30 day free trial of Popular Science for just $14.99. Not a bad deal and since it is delivered digitally you don’t have to remember to go to the store or check your mail box. Plus it saves on paper and ink.
