4G network expands for T-Mobile customers, still aims LTE for 2013

It should come as no surprise that with T-mobile about to launch the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G and the HTC One S just around the corner, that they would up the 4G markets just prior to launch. After all, it does them no good to launch 4G devices without 4G service’s. T-Mobile’s CTO, Neville Ray, announced that they have expanded the 4G coverage in Abilene, Amarillo, Odessa, and Victoria Texas along with Bakersfield California, now have 4G data speeds available. Customers in Eau Claire, Wisconsin plus Joplin and St. Joseph, Missouri also got the boost today. The new additions push T-Mobile’s 4G coverage to 225 markets and covering well over 200 million people.

On the LTE front, T-Mobile stated earlier that they plan to drop a cool $4 billion over time to modernize their network and launch LTE services in 2013. While Ray would like to see HSPA+ 84 evolve along side LTE deployment it is still something they need to consider as a dual effort, but the priority is set for LTE at the moment. Much of this was set in motion with the collapse of the AT&T merger that fell through. T-Mobile was able to snag a boat load of AWS spectrum and good chunk of change to help make this all possible.

It doesn’t matter if you were for or against the merger to begin with, I am still glad the attempt was made. With out its failed attempts we might not be looking to the future with T-mobile.
