4GB RAM mobile devices are just around the corner after Samsung starts mass production of modules

4GB RAM mobile devicesIt wasn’t long ago that 3GB RAM was all the rage in the mobile industry, but now it seems that 4GB RAM mobile devices are just around the corner. The catalyst for this is Samsung announcing that it is going to start mass producing its LPDDR4 (or ‘low power double data rate 4’) RAM modules which will pave the way for 4GB RAM to become available for mobile devices. This is all thanks to Samsung’s 20-nanometer process technology, and Samsung claims this package is theoretically twice as fast as the equivalent PC memory while consuming even less energy.

Whether or not we’ll end up seeing 4GB RAM in an Android device any time soon is anyone’s guess, but the future is bright for mobile devices. It seems like just yesterday that 4GB RAM was the new benchmark for PC hardware, yet now we’re seeing the mobile industry catch up to the PC industry with huge technological improvements with each passing year. It’s an exciting time we live in.
