The 5.15mm thick Gionee Elife S5.1 finds new life as the Kazam Tornado 348

For the briefest of periods, the Gionee Elife S5.1 was the thinnest smartphone in the world. Measuring a ridiculous 5.15mm thick, it has since been surpassed by the Vivo X5 Max (4.7mm) and the Oppo R5 (4.8mm), but that’s not going to stop its re-branded brethren, the Kazam Tornado 348, from claiming the title of “World’s Slimmest Smartphone”. U.K. outfit, Kazam, has made good on their promise to re-brand the wafer-thin device and has started selling the device for a very pretty £249 (or around $387 USD), and have started marketing for it quite unusually, including the following ad which is apparently about a smartphone:

For that money, you’ll be getting an octacore MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 16GM storage and a 720p, 4.8-inch display, which doesn’t seem like all that much until you remember how thin the device is. We’re liking this re-branding business, as it many actually pave the way for more of these devices that are only available in certain regions to start getting sold in bigger markets – and more competition can only lead to better devices and technology.
