The Google Drive G+ page today alerted the world that there are updates on the way for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides today. Google tosses out a few small tidbits about what you can expect to gain in the updates. In Docs you will find the ability to let you choose your line spacing from single, double or fractional. A nice feature if you need to give your writing a little more room to breathe, or have a project that requires specific spacing guidelines.
In Sheets you will find the addition of a scrollbar on the right and bottom of the document. I saw it on the Note 4, but not on the Galaxy S4. In Slides you are now able to insert, move, resize and rotate text boxes, shapes, and lines. Google demonstrates that in a handy little GIF that went along with the announcement.
All in a days work for Google. Google goes on to mention that all three apps are now even friendlier with Office files and other updates. They have also added better accessibility options and squashed some bugs. However, it is the things that I found missing that were a bit more interesting to me. On Docs, if you head to settings you lose the Cache Size setting entirely and now only have the option to clear the cache. The toggle to Enable Encryption is also MIA. They have clarified the document creation setting though which now states “Create Word Files” instead of “Create files in other formats”.

Not sure what to make of those changes or if it is even a big deal or not. The Encryption and Cache size options are also missing from Sheets. I haven’t seen the slides update yet, but I am sure it will be missing the same things with possible other changes.
Be on the look out in the Play Store for the latest updated version of the apps. If you are impatient, you can always snag them from Gappsearly.
