A challenger appears: HTC unveils the HTC One M8s, a new take on the 2014 flagship

It’s not quite the HTC One M9 Plus, but it is a familiar face. HTC has just announced a new device called the HTC One M8s and as you might expect from the name, is actually just last year’s HTC One M8 with a few changes. At first glance, it will look like the phone has not changed at all – the M8s still has the Duo Camera arrangement at the back, a 5-inch 1080p display and singular coloured aluminium body – but all the changes are on the inside.

Instead of rocking a bleeding edge processor, the M8s instead comes with a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor, and will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop. This puts the M8s somewhere between the high and mid range devices – high enough to be viable for budget conscious enthusiasts, but not so high as to challenge the HTC One M9 at the top. For now, the M8s looks like it’s going to be a Europe exclusive, coming in at £379.99, with no mention of other region availability at this time.
