The term ‘4K‘ is being thrown around a lot lately as phone manufacturers try to get a leg up on the competition in this next round of flagship devices, and the next to do so is Acer with the announcement of their new 6-inch smartphone, the Acer Liquid S2. The Liquid S2 will be touting the new Snapdragon 800 processor as well as a 13MP rear camera which will allow it to record 4K videos. The Liquid S2 will be joining the ranks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Honami as the next generation of phones that is capable of this amazing feat.
Along with those video recording chops, the device will feature Android 4.2.2, 16GB onboard memory, 2GB RAM and a 3300mAh battery. On first glance, the phone looks pretty good, but I would suggest that the battery will be a tad inadequate as the current Note II already has a 3100mAh battery and that is 5.5-inches. That said, the Snapdragon 800 has untold wonders and it might end up saving enough battery power for this not to matter. The 4K video recording also sounds nice, obviously a testament to the power of the Snapdragon 800, but as our resident Mandroid has already suggested, there’s very little need for 4K videos at this point in time.
Acer is saying that the device will be available in October, but has not yet named any pricing for it or what markets it will be coming to, though I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of this device at IFA 2013 later this week.
