Add HTC to the list of manufacturers to bring ICS to their Devices, Maybe

Just moments ago HTC posted up some information regarding their plans for Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices. Not that their response is even remotely close to anything we want to hear. At least they have now gone on the record saying they “Please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio.” Because OS upgrades need to have the proper balance between hardware and software to ensure optimal performance.

All this means is they are looking into if current devices can support the OS, which we know they can, and how much they need to add in to please the people. After all, HTC is all about Sense. With ICS having so many wonderful features build into the UI and the UI really being the biggest selling point, they need to figure out how to keep Sense and move forward. I am certain they will get some aspects of the actual ICS incorporated into some updates and in future devices, but I am not holding my breath on having the full look of ICS without a custom ROM.

See their full statement below

Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS’s features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. We’re a recognized industry leader in providing fast and consistent upgrades to our Android devices (see what Engadget had to say about our upgrades: http://engt.co/qMb9nQ), and Ice Cream Sandwich will be no different.

Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio. Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we’ll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks!

Thanks!
