Allegedly leaked Xperia Z4 renders shows Sony keeping with Xperia Z3 design with minor changes

The race to the top of the mobile market is a slow, painful and unforgiving one. One bad move can cost a company millions and sink an otherwise water tight ship. Out of the primary device manufacturers out there, Samsung is one of the few that likes to take a new design and toss it out there to see if it sticks. The Note Edge was the first example and reports many moons ago showed it sold better than even Samsung thought it would. I would assume that is also why we now see the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge landing shortly. HTC kept the One M9 fairly similar in design to the One M8 and it would appear that Sony is on the same path as HTC with the unannounced, but upcoming, Sony Xperia Z4.

Sticking with a design that is familiar to users isn’t terrible. The physical look of a device really does have a lot of limitations and sometimes the risks of breaking the norm is far greater than making small changes to a design that already works well. In the case of the Xperia Z4 it would appear that some of the slight changes will come from where the sensors are placed and the apparent lack of a micro SD card slot door on the right hand side of the device.  The icons are different as well. They ditch the bubble appearance and seem to go flat in the above render. Not a big deal, but something I noticed. The volume rocker also appears to be more rounded to contour to the devices round edges instead of flat. When you look at the Xperia Z3 image below, you can also see that the front facing camera appears to be much larger in size. Likely also meaning a jump in pixels from the current 2.2MP camera to something much better. Although I haven’t caught anyone really giving any thought or rumor to it.

Rumors have pegged the Z4 to come in slightly thinner than the Xperia Z3 was, sport a Qualcomm 810 processor, 4GB of RAM and Sony’s kick ass 21MP camera. There are talks it will sport a 2560 x 1440 resolution display between 5.2 and 5.5 inches.

All rumors still and supposedly leaks at this point in time. Judging by what you hear and see so far, what do you think?
