As of yesterday, 50% of all Android devices have received Android 2.1 and I’m sure once the HTC Hero starts getting the OTA that number will increase significantly. Although this might not mean much to you specifically, it sure means a lot to Android engineers who are trying to remove the word “fragmentation” from our memory. Below is a breakdown from their previous data collection.
Android 1.1
Generally stayed the same as far as numbers go.
Android 1.5
Has dropped 3% from 27.6% to 24.6%.
Android 1.6
Has dropped slightly from it’s 26.8% to 25%.
Android 2.0 and 2.0.1
Has roughly stayed dormant.
Android 2.1
Shows an increase from 45.1% to an even 50%.
