If you had to guess which device after the Nexus, Motorola and Google Play edition devices would be getting the Android 4.4.4 update next, I’m willing to bet that the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact wouldn’t be the first thing you blurt out. As fate would have it, however, Android 4.4.4 for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has indeed been spotted rolling out to devices in Russia, Italy and Indonesia, bearing a build number of 14.4.A.0.108. The changelog has not yet been sourced, but it’s likely to contain just bug fixes and minor updates seeing as the Z1 Compact is only being updated from Android 4.4.2. The Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra are expected to get Android 4.4.4 next as their updates have been spotted getting approved, but has not yet started rolling out.
The Z1 Compact is somewhat of an anomaly in the Android market, and a good one at that. Despite the fact that it bears the name “Compact”, it has no resemblance to other devices which call themselves “Mini”. Just about the only difference it has to its literal bigger brother, the Xperia Z1, is the fact that it has a 720p display that is 4.3-inch; everything else, including the Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz and the 20.7MP camera are all available to the Z1 Compact, making it just a little bit special for those people who want a small phone with flagship performance.
What do you think about Android 4.4.4 for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact being released so soon after the “Google”-related devices? Let us know your thoughts.
