Android 5.0 Lollipop landing on Galaxy S5 devices in Russia and Malaysia

Everyone wants Android 5.0 Lollipop on their device. There are options and ways to make that happen, but a lot of people are plenty happy just getting the OTA from the manufacturer/carrier and running with it. Samsung hasn’t always been the largest proponent of updates to Android OS version updates in the past, but more recently they have really started to push things along a bit better. The current flagships, The Note 4 and Galaxy S5, are hot topics for Android 5.0, and so are previous models like the Note 2, Note 3 and Galaxy S4. Poland owners picked up the Lollipop update for their Galaxy S5, along with Spain. Now we can add Russia and Malaysia to the list of locales that are snagging a tasty treat in the new year.

A few days ago there was a supposed leaked email depicting information that Samsung is pushing to get the Galaxy S5 updated globally in January and then follow-up with the Note 4 and Note Edge. While the target month is January, it is likely that updates for the flagship will bleed over into February. Still a much better time line projection than usual.

The updates in Russia and Malaysia carry build numbers G900FDXU1BNL3 and G900FDXXU1BNL9 respectively. You guys will get Samsung’s take on Material Design tweaks with the Touch-Wiz UI overlay along with redesigned multitasking, redesigned lockscreen, new heads up notifications and lots more. If you happen to be in the locales listed then be sure to take a quick check for the update. If you are a bit impatient and know a thing or two, you can grab the firmware from SamMobile and flash it right now.
