The NPD Group released the latest Mobile Phone track and Android outsold the iPhone 28% to 21%. Every month the NPD processes around 150,000 online consumer research surveys. This information is compiled and analyzed and we are very happy with the latest results.
Blackberry is still the market leader but it’s a step in the right direction for Android. The success of the Verizon Motorola DROID is obviously the reason for this leap in the market. No other phone has been so vastly popular before.
Device promotions are apparently one of the main factors for the increase in sales with cheaper prices and free extra phones when you purchase one.
“As in the past, carrier distribution and promotion have played a crucial role in determining smartphone market share,” said Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD. “In order to compete with the iPhone, Verizon Wireless has expanded its buy-one-get-one offer beyond RIM devices to now include all of their smartphones.”
With so many current releases and hopefully a plethora of surprises coming at Google I/O, Androids market share can only increase as time goes by.
Go Android !
