Android Lollipop memory leak issue marked as “FutureRelease”, could appear in next software update

Although Android Lollipop is a huge step forward in many ways for the Android platform, this latest update seems to have had no shortage of issues being reported. Unfortunately, many of these issues seem to manifest the worst on Nexus devices, if exclusively, perhaps because they are the most numerously updated devices at the moment. The worst of these currently is the Android Lollipop memory leak issue – the issue often causes apps to terminate and constantly reload the home page, and worst yet, allows apps that normally wouldn’t command more than 500MB of RAM to use up to 1.2GB which is an entirely ludicrous amount.

Thanks to the sheer number of reports of this issue on the Android Issue Traacker, the issue has been investigated and found to be caused by system_server. Obviously an issue like this needed Google’s immediate attention and the issue is now fixed and is now marked as “FutureRelease” which suggests it should feature in the next major or minor software update. Whether this ends up being Android 5.0.3 or Android 5.1, nobody knows, but Nexus owners should be happy in knowing respite is on its way.
