Not too long ago, I went to my local Best Buy. I really wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I only went to browse the gadgets and play with the display models. Unfortunately for Best Buy, I left without buying anything but I did take something away from the visit. No, I didn’t steal anything. I had an epiphany.
I was looking at a display of pedometers and thinking it could be useful to have one. I do a fair amount of walking in the course of my day, and knowing what I average would be a good starting point to work towards increasing my distance. I became so engrossed in comparing the different models and prices that when the thought struck me, it was literally jarring.
The thought I had, if you haven’t guessed by now, is that I reminded myself that I didn’t need to spend twenty dollars or more on a pedometer, when my Android phone could do the same thing. The best part was that I didn’t even need to download an app, as I already had a tracking app on my phone.
Just like with clothes, there is that special group of favorite apps you use often, and the rest gather dust, so to speak, until they’re needed. Â I’ve had the barcode scanner app on my phone almost as long as I’ve had Android, but I’ve only used it a couple times. Â I keep it because it is a very useful app, and I never know when I will have a use for it, but considering it’s saved me significant money in the past, I have no intention of getting rid of it.
How about you guys? Has your Android ever come in handy when you least expected it? What’s that app that you will always have, just in case?
