Andy Rubin Demos New Google Maps 5.0 on Honeycomb Tablet, Coming to All Devices [Video]

We brought you the first look on Honeycomb earlier today. Now feast your eyes on the new Google Maps update that Andy Rubin showed off at the Dive Into Mobile conference last night.

The upcoming Maps update is loaded some new goodies that are praiseworthy. New features include a much faster performance, 3D building rendering, and, my personal favorite, an offline mode.  The offline mode allows the app to download map locations while connected to Wi-Fi, preventing map and navigational failures due to loss in data connections.

Google Maps 5.0 also adds some Google Earth-like features such as 3D building models (in over 100 cities), tilting support and automatic rotation of maps using the device’s compass to help maintain direction.

Although features like dynamic rendering and automatic map rotation will not work with all Android devices, the update will support any Android device running Android 1.6 “Donut” or above.

The new version of Maps for Mobile hits the Android Market in the coming days. Check out the Android 3.0 Honeycomb demo below:
