When Simon called me today to check up on how things were going, he asked me if I saw the Chrome commercial that aired on TV last night. Being that I don’t have cable and live my life solely off Netflix and the internet, my answer was ‘no’. He told me it was kinda funny and I should look it up on YouTube, so I did.
After watching it and laughing a little, I wondered how on earth they came to a conclusion that they needed to make a commercial about the Chrome browser. Oddly enough, I don’t think I have ever seen a commercial for any browser ever on TV. That doesn’t mean there were some, I just have never noticed. The only thing that I can think of is Google is trying branch out a bit. All of us die-hard Googlers know all about Chrome and the Web App store and even that you can play Angry Birds on it. I am guessing that Google is trying to be noticed a bit more for everything that they do instead of just being labeled as a ‘Search Engine’ company. We all know they provide a lot more than just a web search.
No matter what the reason behind the commercial is, it is still refreshing to see them get something out in the media that isn’t device related or search related. Hopeful this new commercial will draw in a few thousand more Chrome users. After all, that is the point of marketing. Take a quick watch below to check out the commercial. It features cartoon characters of some Angry Birds with voices done by Seedar, Jaakko and Peter, the developers behind the widely popular game. It is pretty funny.
