Angry Birds Space finally drops with added perks from Wal-Mart and T-Mobile Too

When Angry Birds first game to Android, many of us were extremely excited. Then came Seasons and Rio, it was still a big deal at that time. After a multitude of themed updates over the ages, Angry Birds started to lose its steam and appeal to the more long term Android user. I used to keep them up to date and beat all the new levels. Now I see an update and keep moving on. Finally Rovio has stepped up their game and brought a new Angry Birds that is finally different and new.

Enter Angry Birds Space. Bringing back the joys that we once felt when we first installed Angry Birds. The overall game play approach is the same. You are still flinging pissed off birds at some thieving little pigs. What makes this iteration so much better is the added insanity of planets and gravity. Ultimately changing the game play dynamic immensely. In this out of the world version you get 60 levels right off the bat. There is a new bird, which I have yet to make it to yet. Many of the birds have the same powers as previous installments, I have discovered that the purple bird, which was the old yellow bird, has a new power though. When you tap on the screen to make him ‘zoom’ the place you tapped is a  target that he shoots at. In addition, the hidden golden eggs open up a worm hole that transports you to a bonus level. The first one is pretty easy, while the second one took a minute to figure out.

There is more fun to be had beyond just your normal install of the game. Starting today via Wal-Marts Facebook page you have a chance to pick up an exclusive level. They will display a “golden eggsteroid” clue to help you pick it up. To make you want to run out and buy some Angry Bird swag, Wal-Mart will have three more exclusive levels for you to unlock hidden in merchandise. Yes, that is right, hidden inside or on various products listed below –

  • Angry Birds Space Fruit Snacks
  • Angry Birds Space Limited Edition Space T-shirt
  • Angry Birds Space 5-inch and 8-inch plush birds
I am not ashamed to admit that I might spend tonight at my local Wal-Mart trying to pick them up.
T-Mobile is even in on the fun too. They will have representatives at 1000 stores around the country showing people how to unlock the new levels on an Android device. They will also offer special coverage plans, an Angry Birds Portal where you can download the game, wallpapers and animated shorts.
Between the huge expense that Rovio dumped into promoting the game, Wal-Mart jumping on board and T-Mobile following suit, it is going to be impossible to not pick it up. Hopefully it doesn’t get over promoted and turn into an annoyance rather than a great launch. Click or scan the QR codes below to pick up the free version with the usual ads, or you can finally buy a premium version for $0.99 that ditches the ads.
