App Review: PhoneSecurity. Find out who has your phone!

Application name : PhoneSecurity
Published by: Mustafa Ferhan Akman
Market price: FREE

There are so many applications in the market that sometimes you miss out on the exceptional ones. I do a lot of searching and a lot of installing and uninstalling. PhoneSecurity is one of those applications that is a must have if you have ever had your phone stolen or worry that it might get stolen someday. This application is the solution.

What it does is very simple yet very powerful. If your phone ever gets stolen or lost and someone else puts their SIM card into your phone, as soon as it is turned on a background SMS is sent to the numbers you designate. How great is that? They won’t even know it was sent. Here’s the message that gets received: The phone number of the SIM that was put in your phone. The SIM cards serial number 8901260XXXX, the network operator: T-Mobile. The Country it is in and your phones IMEI number. Talk about instant gratification! Show that to the police and I bet they can get your phone back a lot easier than with a GPS location.

All in all, the application does exactly what it says it does and it does it well. I tested it with my Wife’s SIM card and got an immediate alert to my Daughter’s phone. If you ever need to change the numbers that are set up just go into the market and downloads, then uninstall and reinstall.

Tested with: MyTouch 3G and T-Mobile G1. Running Android 1.6 and Cyanogen Test-7 2.1 Éclair. If you want to try PhoneSecurity for yourself, you can scan the QR code, or click here from your Android device.
