The term ‘god game’ used to mean building structures and manging the lives of your people in games such as Populous or Spore but Pocket God is more like a bizarre collection of micro games.
Pocket God originally released early last year for the iPhone when it offered little else to do beyond throwing around a villager,  since then additions have been frequent, adding small features with each update. The version that was released on Android at the beginning of this month contains most of the content from the iPhone version as of March, so it is a little behind, although there is still plenty to do.
All the activities take place over  several single screen islands that you can travel between using a menu. Each island has different activities that can be activated in different ways: swiping, tapping, dragging and tilting. You are encouraged to experiment to find these, although the built-in help does a good job of showing you what can be done. Perhaps the best way of explaining Pocket God is to list a few of the things that are possible:
- Tilting the device around effects gravity, using this to to fling a native into the sky begins a accelerometer based vertical platformer.
- Swiping quickly around the water creates a tidal wave granting access to an underwater area that has sharks with lazer beams on their heads.
- Taping the ant hill releases ants that can be drawn out and burnt with a lens, the same lens can incinerate natives.
- Burying a native turns him into a zombie, he’ll then hunt and turn other natives into zombies.
Each one of the game’s features provides a quick diversion that generally won’t be something you want to repeat often, if at all but Pocket God still manage to intrigue. The charm of the graphics and sound coupled with so many little features and frequent updates (hopefully for Android too!) makes Pocket God worthy of your dollar.
