App Review: Slice It

App developer com2us is responsible for some of the most fun, visually stunning games on the Android platform. With titles like Heavy Gunner, Home Run Battle 3D, and Sniper vs Sniper behind their belt, it’s no surprise that their latest title, Slice It, is a fun and addictive game. The idea is simple, you are presented with a certain shape in each level and then have a certain number of lines, shown as pencils,  to draw in order to split the shape into the required number of pieces. In all it’s simplicity, the game is a nice way to pass the time, for a little bit.

The controls are simple, it requires one finger to slide a line across the screen in order to draw your slice. As the levels progress the shapes become more distinct and obstacles appear, such as areas you can’t draw lines through. You also aren’t required to keep the same shape to pass the level, for instance if you are given a triangle to start with your end shapes don’t necessarily have to be triangles.

Throughout the game you are allowed hints which are given for certain achievements like clearing a stage or earning 5 stars on a level. The hints simply show you where to slice by placing a dotted line on the screen. Some levels allow more hints than others, but being able to complete the level without a hint will make you feel pretty good about your slicing skills.

There are a total of five chapters that show on the level select screen, but only 3 are available right now. Trying to select chapters 4 or 5 will show a pop up that states the chapter is coming soon and asks for a 5 star review to help speed up the updates. This is at little annoying since it seems the developer is begging for a rating but you are not required to actually give a review to continue playing the game.

The in game visuals are incredibly simple, as you can see by the screen shots you play on a piece of paper that reminds me of the old boxes game I used to play in grade school. The shapes drawn of a realistic feel to them and look as if you are really sitting at your desk playing the game with on a sheet of paper with a no. 2 pencil in hand.

If you’re looking for a game to help pass the time I would definitely give it a shot and the free price tag could help sway your decision to download it. Head over to the market and search for SliceIt or scan the QR bar code below for a direct download.
