Apple sues Google to make Google stop suing Apple in Germany

Are you confused yet? I sure as heck am. Just when we thought the frivolous suits would slow down a bit, Apple kicks it back into gear. Currently, Google/Motorola has a suit filed against Apple over one of its FRAND (Fair Reasonable And Non-Discriminatory) patents. Which is a fancy word for company’s agreeing that a technology should be a industry-wide standard. Putting technology and people in front for the greater good instead and at a fair price. At least that is my understanding of it.

The Apple case in Germany is related to a Qualcomm chip that Motorola is claiming infringes upon its patents by being used in the iPhone 4S and other devices. It is not so much that Google has a suit over seas against Apple, which has since been suspended and overturned. That seems to be the norm anymore from all sides. What is funny, is that Apple has filed a suit against Motorola in San Diego. Apple is seeks a declaration forbidding Motorola from suing over the Qualcomm patent in Germany. They also want to declare that Qualcomm has the license to the Motorola patent in question and that Motorola is in breach of contract by suing Apple to begin with.

So, to sum it up.. Google/Motorola sue Apple in Germany, Apple sues Google/Motorola in the states to make them stop suing Apple in Germany. For good measure, they are dragging Qualcomm into the mix. Did I get that right? What a waste of both time and money by all parties involved.
