It’s common for product insurance companies, like Asurion, or carriers to offer or ship alternative phones in place of certain warrantied or broken handsets when availability is short. Having said that reports rolling in over the weekend suggest that this may be the case for recent Verizon customers seeking insurance replacements for their current Droid Xs. According to users Asurion is shipping Motorola’s latest dual-core Droid in place of the ol’ single-core flagship device. While we’re sure it’s not minded by the recipients a jump in hardware such as this is not the usual practice. However, given the similarities in the devices it’s not really as surprising. We suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more broken Droid Xs in the future, provided the willingness to pay a deductible is there.
