ASUS drops teaser trailer for Padfone, no device in Sight

It is no secret that ASUS has some tricks up their sleeve at all times. We get the good news of Ice Cream Sandwich dropping for the Transformer Prime, and then they show us a quick look at a 7-inch Tegra 3 tablet they are making. What a bunch of sneaky jerks. That was all at CES. Now we have another major event less than a week away, Mobile World Congress. It is an even better stage for announcements and unveiling since it is all about the mobile world and they can’t be over shadowed by a Tegra 3 equipped Lamborghini. The expected offerings from ASUS this year should be focused around the Padfone.

The Padfone, for those of you that haven’t been paying attention, is the next greatest concoction of mobile communications simplified. There is a phone that will be running a Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.0 and be rocking a 4.3-inch display. Or so it has been hinted. Sounds cool, but not the selling point. There is also a tablet. A 10.1-inch tablet to be more precise. NO, they aren’t different products, it is all one product. You drop pop open a door on the tablet and click your phone inside and you now have a fully functional tablet running off your phone. The tablet has a screen, battery and speakers along with all the necessary electronics, but the processing power and brain is actually your phone. Sounds pretty amazing huh? I want one. The heck with a Prime.

The teaser that ASUS released for the upcoming MWC leaves you day dreaming about so much that it almost isn’t a teaser, its more of a slap in the face. If you expect to catch another glimpse of the device, you will be let down. They bring in the catch phrase of “Divided we stand, together we rock” and 1+1+1 = Endless Possibilities. We wonder if the second of the two is referring to the use of the TF201 keyboard dock for the Prime that can be used with the Padfone, or if it is referencing the potential Jelly Bean version that can bring everything to PCs too. Guess we will have to wait and see. For now, watch the clip.
