ASUS reportedly working on budget friendly Android Wear Device

It has been about 24 hours or so since the first two commercially available Android Wear smartwatches made their appearance in the Play Store. The LG G Watch hit with a price tag of $229 in a traditional black or in a white/gold offering. The other was the Samsung Gear Live. Very similar to the LG G Watch, but with a slightly smaller battery and screen res/size changes for $199. The big Android Wear device that many have been itching for is the Moto 360. It is hard to not love the look and some of the designs that many created for the Motorola design challenge. We know that a number of other manufacturers out there are partnered with Google to bring out Android Wear devices. When Google first made the announcement back in March they listed ASUS, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung as being all on board. Along with various chip manufacturers such as Intel, Mediatech and Qualcomm. The Fossil Group was also mentioned to be bringing a fashionable Android Wear device out later this year as well.

We know what the first run of Android Wear devices look like and what most of their prices are. ASUS and HTC are still missing from the initial launch, but should be catching up shortly. We are betting that they have some things in the works, but are letting some of the other guys take the lead and fix what ever everyone complains about in the competitions versions and solve it before they launch. A new report seemingly confirms that ASUS is working on an Android Wear device. Not that we didn’t know they were anyways, but the interesting news is that they are supposedly doing so with an AMOLED display and are targeting the $100 to $150 price range.

Regardless if you love him or hate him, @evleaks also confirmed ASUS is working on it and the code name is Robin. he also mentions that it will be the thinnest device in the category. After seeing how thick the Moto 360 appears, as well as the LG G Watch and Gear Live, something thinner and less expensive could do pretty well. The big questions that need to be answered is if it will be round or square and if they can pack a longer lasting battery inside.

If I had to hedge a bet, and this part is 100% opinion, I would think ASUS might be bringing in the Mediatek processor due to its lower price point to purchase. Many might scoff a that, but Mediatek has done some pretty good work lately in their processor department. Heck, every device I have used with a Mediatek processor has performed quite well and done exceptional on battery life. Case in point, the Lenovo Yoga 8 and Yoga 10. I wouldn’t be opposed to buying an ASUS designed budget friendly Mediatek backed Android Wear device. Especially if they can hit the $100 price point, or damn near it.

So, what about HTC? Where you guys at on the rumor leak list? We NEED DETAILS!
