AT&T Amps Up Early Upgrade Fee For Smartphones By $125

While AT&T just announced three new handsets it looks like AT&T has also made some changes to their early upgrade policy by increasing the fee from $75 to outrageous $200. I guess if you’re willing to dish out $399 to upgrade you might as well go the $499 and get the device without a contract.

AT&T stated the following to their employees:

“This change to our exception pricing is necessary to maintain our ability to provide customers with the best selection of devices and maintain our leadership in the Smartphone category.”

The policy change went into effect on October 3rd, so if you were looking to pony up $75 for the Samsung Captivate, you might want to bring more dough. This policy change only includes smartphones, but if you look at the top of the image it reads:

“This change does not apply to iPhone or Basic and Quick Messaging Phones.”

How do you all feel about this? Let loose in the comments below.
