In response to the recent natural disasters that occurred in Japan, the nations two top carriers have announced free SMS and calls to Japan. The only difference in the offerings between these carriers is the amount of time it will be available.
AT&T put this offer into effect March 11th, and will continue to offer it until the end of the month. Any texts or calls made to Japan will be waived. AT&T is also offering free calls to their wireline customers.
Verizon announced that they would be offering this same deal, however theirs will be offered until April 10th. Any texts or calls made to Japan will be waived. Verizon is also offering free calls to their wireline customers.
For those of you that have family or friends in Japan offering a few bucks off your wireless bill isn’t much, however it’s nice to know that you won’t have have an outrageous bill to deal with on top of these circumstances.
