AT&T Mobile Insurance program enters open enrollment period for all customers through March 31st

When you upgrade to a new device, add a line or start a new service you are given the opportunity to add some form of mobile insurance to your plan. Typically you have a set time period before you can no longer add the coverage to your fancy new device. In AT&T’s case you have 30 days to put it on that line. The mobile insurance package offerings from AT&T are pretty handy little services to include as it gives you an opportunity to replace your device, albeit at a price. Personally I would much rather shell out a fraction of the devices full cost price tag if it came to it.  If you have found your self kicking yourself for failing to take advantage of the program during your 30 day window, you can stop as AT&T is offering up an open enrollment period for all customers now through March 31st.

This means that if you bought that fancy Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on launch day and didn’t add the mobile insurance you can opt in now. It doesn’t stop with coverage for lost, stolen or damaged devices. There are actually 3 levels of mobile insurance to choose from.

  • AT&T Mobile Insurance: $6.99 a month per device. The insurance includes coverage for loss, theft, accidental damage and out-of-warranty malfunctions for an eligible phone or tablet.*
  • AT&T Mobile Protection Pack (MPP): $9.99 a month for an eligible phone or tablet. MPP includes AT&T Mobile Insurance plus access to technical assistance with enhanced support. The Mobile Locate app is also included and lets you lock and erase a lost device, secure content and more.**
  • AT&T Multi-Device Protection Pack (MDPP): $29.99 a month. This program provides protection and support for up to three eligible devices, including smartphones, tablets (Wi-Fi and cellular), and laptops.***

Another perk to the deal is that your deductibles decline over time, much like the resale value does for most devices. For instance, your deductible for a Note 4 in the first 6 months is $199.00, 6 months to one year it is $149 and after a year it is only $99. That is for the top-tier devices. I can think a few family members that I would gladly pay the cost for them to have coverage. Not just because they break and lose their phones all the time, but for that technical assistance with enhanced support option. After all, friends and family don’t pay me to fix their devices after they mess them up.

Like with anything else, there are rules and limitations like you can’t get a GoPhone covered for instance. You can put coverage on your non AT&T connected qualifying tablet or laptop though.

If you happen to be sporting AT&t service and are interested in getting a mobile protection plan added on you can do so through your myAT&T app on your device, logging on to your account online, visiting a store or giving a quick call to customer service.
