BBC iPlayer radio app now available on Android

BBC iPlayer radio

The BBC iPlayer radio app is now available in the Google Play store. The iOS version of iPlayer radio showed up over a year ago.

The content comes from BBC’s radio shows along with podcasts, on-demand programs and video clips from past events. Special features include the ability to listen to all BBC radio broadcasts live, specific on-demand content on every station page, program reminders and music discovery.

There are a few differences between the iOS and Android apps. Content is buried under the ‘currently-playing content’ on iOS, but content can be scrolled through horizontally on Android. Notifications also appear at the top of the screen on the Android-version. Sharing is easier as well, tracks and artists can be shared on social networks like Delicious, Digg, Facebook, Reddit, Stumbleupon and Twitter.

The BBC iPlayer radio app is available on Android devices operating on version 4.0 or above. Known issues with the app include audio playback problems with the Samsung Galaxy S3. Samsung will be working on the issue with the next firmware fix.
